What is “JRPG”?

"JRPG" (Japanese Role-Playing Game) refers to the design tradition that grew out of Japanese RPG development: a clear main plot, distinctive party members, leveling or job systems, and menu/command-centered combat (turn-based, ATB, active commands, and their modern hybrids). Recent titles often blend cinematic action, so the border of the genre keeps widening. Where Western RPGs often emphasize player-authored builds, branching routes, and open exploration, JRPGs lean toward experiencing an authored story and party journey through systems. GPA's JRPG small-tag tracks that grammar more than the studio's country of origin.
